The evil spirit cannot hope to survive in the presence of God’s kingship. Yet the crowd is astonished (v. 22) and amazed (v. 27). They are left questioning: “What is this?” (v. 27). For all his authority over the evil spirit, the human beings in the story are left amazed and wondering.
